The contract began on 1 August 2022 and ended on 31 August 2024. The main aim of this project was the digitisation and online availability of António de Morais Silva’s Diccionario da Lingua Portugueza. The initiative follows the guidelines of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), particularly adopting the TEI Lex-0 specification.
Main responsibilities and tasks carried out:

Electronic encoding of the Morais Dictionary lexicographic corpus:
Application of TEI guidelines;
Preparation of data for publication on the project website, ensuring accessibility and digital preservation. -
Linguistic annotation and analysis of lexicographic entries:
Detailed annotation of entries, following the project’s methodology, focusing on macrostructural and microstructural analysis;
Creation of lexicographic typologies for systematic categorisation of data;
Careful segmentation of entry components, ensuring precision in the representation of linguistic information. -
Linguistic updating and modernisation:
Mapping of historical spellings to contemporary forms, ensuring the preservation of historical value while facilitating modern research;
Integration of these correspondences into the lexicographic database, enabling both modern and historically contextualised searches. -
Development and maintenance of the digital platform:
Creation of the lexicographic module for the digital platform, promoting open access and usability;
Continuous updating of the project’s website to ensure that progress and results were publicly accessible. -
Scientific output and dissemination:
Preparation of scientific articles for publication in leading journals in language sciences and digital humanities;
Participation in research activities, including training and preparation of technical reports;
Support for cross-cutting project tasks, particularly technical assistance and collaboration in the management and documentation of results.
